Tips for Giving Demonstrations¶
The following recommendations will help you get the best performance for demonstrating Ultraleap Hand Tracking on the Pico Neo 3.
Optimal lighting conditions¶
Ultraleap hand tracking cameras use infrared light. This means they are not affected by dark lighting conditions, but performance can be affected by bright lights and/or reflective surfaces.
Make sure you get an optimal user experience by avoiding bright conditions.
Start the user with the XR Launcher¶
The Ultraleap XR Launcher is designed to introduce hand tracking to users who are new to hand tracking (and even VR).
It also acts as a “home screen”, from where you can navigate to the other demonstration applications that Ultraleap provide.
We recommend that when helping a new user to get started, make sure the launcher is preloaded so that they can get going quickly.
Developer Mode¶
Developer Mode provides options that are not expected to be used by your average consumer and are therefore hidden to avoid overcomplicating their experience. However, these options can really help enhance the demo experience.
Activating Developer Mode¶
Select Settings
Go to Software Version
Select Software Version seven times with the controller
Note: this will add a new option at the bottom of the settings menu titled “Developer”
Disable the Play Boundary¶
The Ultraleap experiences do not require the user to physically walk around. As a result, disabling the Play Boundary is a suitable option, and can be a great way of making it easy to pass headsets between users, without having to reset it every time.
Process for disabling the Boundary¶
Go to Settings
Select Developer
Select Disable Play Boundary
CAUTION! Once you have disabled the Play Boundary, users will be unaware of their surroundings and could incur injury if left unattended.
Kiosk Mode¶
Note
In version 4.8.15+ “Kiosk Mode” is replaced by “Home Screen”. Versions older than 4.8.15 should follow instructions for Kiosk Mode. 4.8.15 and beyond should follow instructions for Home Screen, below.
Kiosk Mode allows only one app (the “kiosk app”) to be launched upon powering on a device. This locks down the device and prevents users from exiting the kiosk app and accessing other apps on the device.
Setting the XR Launcher as the default application will save you time and explanation because the user will not need controllers to start the application once the headset has been turned on.
Process for setting up the Launcher in Kiosk Mode¶
Go to Settings
Select Developer
Select Industrial Settings
Select Launcher App (kiosk mode)
Select the Ultraleap XR Launcher
Restart the headset, as directed by the UI
Note
If you want to exit the Ultraleap XR Launcher in Kiosk Mode and return to the Pico UI Menu, hold the large white button on the right side of your headset, and at the same time press the down volume button.
Home Screen¶
Note
Version 4.8.15+ only
In home screen, the user can select app to become the “home” app that is on the home screen when the Pico is turned on.
Process for setting up the Home Screen app¶
Go to General settings
Click Industry settings
Click Home Screen
Select the app that you want to be your home screen
To start using the app, restart the headset
